Why do we Need to Study the Media?

I believe it is important that we study the media to avoid becoming complacent and naive to the media’s influence on us in the modern day. By studying the media and how it is used to influence people we can avoid being overly influenced by media and its bias.

Studying the media also exposes us to different forms of media and varying opinions within the media so we can form our own opinions and ideas about the subject matters of the media we take in, this is important as not everything can be taken at face value within forms of media like the news as there is often opinionated and biased news produced by news publishers/broadcasters. It is also important to not take everything at face value in a time in which social media is a rampant method of communication and sharing media.

Social media allows people to share their opinions worldwide and some of these opinions are not always based in fact, us as youths are often highly impressionable and can easily be lead astray by the media’s influence – it is vital that we learn to consider the media we consume rather than taking it in without questioning it.
